Springdale NL

Green Bay's hub

Springdale NL

Springdale, Newfoundland and Labrador, started as a small lumber settlement at the end of the 1880s. With the building of a cottage hospital in 1952 and later a couple of banks, Springdale emerged as the economic and services hub of Green Bay.

Sales and service outlets are there, as well as core services such as banks, RCMP and medical clinics. Pharmacies, hardware, dentist office, a cottage hospital, retirement complexes/care homes and more are also found there.

Springdale is slated to get a new cottage hospital to replace the current one. Although the location has been chosen, construction has not yet started.

Springdale has a reasonably large retirement/senior care industry. The Valley Vista (retirement home and seniors’ care facility) is there, as well as a privately-run retirement centre.

History Tidbit: Many people may not know that South Brook was once incorporated with Springdale, from 1945-1965.
