The Story of the ‘Whale Man’ to Play in Grand Falls-Windsor

Dr. Jon Lien is known in Newfoundland as ‘The Whale Man‘. He developed techniques for rescuing whales trapped in fishing nets. He is said to have saved the lives of over 500 animals.

The Dr. Jon Lien Whale Pavilion on the waterfront in King’s Point is named for Dr. Lien and now his life is also the subject of a theatrical piece that will play the Arts & Culture Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor on April 16th.

According to the Arts & Culture website, remarkable Dr. Lien’s biggest fight was against a lengthy illness — “the suspected long-term result of a random highway accident”.

Artistic Fraud of Newfoundland’s ‘Between Breaths‘ will tell Lien’s story onstage at 8:00 pm in the Gordon Pinsent Centre for the Arts. It was written by Robert Chafe, directed by Jillian Keiley and features original music composed by The Once.
