July 11, 2018 ~ Plans for the new hospital in Springdale were presented today at the boardroom of Green Bay Community Health Centre in Springdale.
MHA Brian Warr attended, as did Louise Jones Interim President & CEO of Central Health and Donald Sturge Chair of the Board of Trustees of Central Health.
Through the chants by protesters in support of Dr. Todd Young outside, John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, announced construction will begin in August and is expected to take 18 to 20 months to complete.
Minister Haggie stated today construction will begin “… as soon as the contractor can be mobilized…”
The construction contract has been awarded to JMJ Holdings and is valued at approximately $12.6 million.
The new Green Bay Health Centre will be an about 3,000 square metres. It will include space for doctor clinics, diagnostic and laboratory services, rehab, an emergency department and a nine-bed in-patient area.
Community Services will also be housed at the new facility.
About 2 dozen protesters were outside the hospital during today’s announcement. They made their presence known through chants in support of Dr. Todd Young who has been trying to have his full hospital privileges reinstated.
They were easy to hear from within the hospital’s boardroom, through the speeches and announcement.
