July 9, 2018 ~ The announcement was made last week that Saltwire Network, the owner of the Nor’Wester, will merge four of its weekly Newfoundland & Labrador papers into one single publication.
Saltwire Network is a privately-owned company based in Halifax. The company owns dozens of newspapers across Atlantic Canada. Saltwire bought the Nor’Wester in 2017 as part of a deal with TC media.
On August 1st, one free publication – the Central Voice – will replace four Central NL newspapers: The Pilot (Lewisporte), The Advertiser (Grand Falls-Windsor), The Nor’wester (Triton/Springdale/Baie Verte) and The Beacon (Gander).
CBC NL reported the last Nor’Wester edition is set to publish on July 26.
The Central Voice will be managed out of the Telegram offices in St. John’s.
