Correction [July 10]: It is specifically the Family Medicine aspect of the Main Street Medical practice that is set to end.
Dr. Todd Young has released a statement informing the public that he intends to close his Main Street Medical Family Medicine Practice
Clinic in Springdale.
Dr. Young has fought for years to have Central Health to reinstate his hospital privileges. He stated that not being able to get hospital privileges is a reason “to move on”.
The clinic His family practice will close in three months time, on October 9th, 2018.
His statement, in full:
To Family Medicine patients of Main Street Medical Clinic, Springdale, NL:
The inability to obtain hospital privileges from Central Health has caused me to reconsider the direction of services and it is time to move on. It is increasingly difficult to provide comprehensive rural family medicine without hospital privileges. I have exhausted all efforts to resolve this issue for my patients without success.
I love my community and equally love being a physician in my hometown but without hospital privileges I cannot provide the level of care my family medicine patients deserve. As a result of being unable to obtain privileges I will be closing my family medicine practise in 3 months, October 9th, 2018 (3 months notice as per the College of Physician of Newfoundland and Labrador).
