King’s Point to Up Its Tourism Game By Starting a Professional Theatre Company

Volunteers to give it a 'kick off', and the first show is on September 21

King’s Point to Up Its Tourism Game By Starting a Professional Theatre Company

September 20, 2018 ~ A group of King’s Point residents, and a professional actor, are working to start a professional theatre company in the community.

The aim is to build a theatre company operation like those is place by Rising Tide Theatre in Trinity and Theatre NL in Gros Morne. The intent is to have broad appeal to Green Bay residents, Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, and ‘come from aways’.

The company would produce shows of local Green Bay stories, Newfoundland culture and more.

The project is ambitious and key to the effort is Newfoundland actor Rory Lambert. Rory, a native of Rattling Brook and graduate of Valmont Academy, is a trained and well-experienced professional actor who has worked with Newfoundland and Labrador’s best-known theatre companies. Rory has appeared on TV, is also a playwright and has extensive experience.

Rory travelled out from St. John’s to spend this week in King’s Point, to see the plans for a King’s Point theatre company get off the ground.

The effort looks to be off to a very good start, with the first show coming up tomorrow (Friday). The forming of the new theatre company is also turning into a cross-community volunteer effort. Volunteers are forming a Board. Valmont Academy students are stepping up to help fill Friday’s performance, and other residents will help within the show. The Town Council has provided an amount of financial support to help in the kick off. By the Sea Cafe is an event sponsor for Friday’s performance.

This ‘First Off’ first show came together very quickly and will serve as an introduction for the community of King’s Point to what is being planned.

It has to start somewhere, as people say, and it looks like King’s Point means business.

The show will be held in the community’s fire hall on Friday, September 21st. It starts at 6:30 pm. Admission is $5 and is available at the door.
