This Week is Kin Week

February 18th to 24th has been declared as KIN WEEK in Canada. Kin Canada, a Canadian only service organization was begun on February 20th, 1920 in Hamilton, Ontario by a young ww1 veteran named Harold A Rogers and a few friends who saw a need. The ‘need’ as young Hal(Harold) and his friends perceived it was the desire to continue the camaraderie and the friendships that were formed during those terrible times of war. Soon community service became a large part of what the new organization was all about. The motto ‘Serving the Community’s Greatest Need’ continues.

Here Springdale Mayor Dave Edison signs a proclamation to declare February 18th to February 24th to be Kin Week in Green Bay. Present for the proclamation signing are three members of the local club. Left to right are Don Rice, Joe Hann and Norm Dicks.

The Kinsmen Club of Green Bay has been active in the community since 1987. Membership is open to males and females over 19 years of age. Meetings are held every two weeks (except during July and August) at which time members conduct club business and discuss ways and means to fundraise for the charitable causes to which the club donates.

At present the club’s major fundraising effort is toward a commitment to purchase a ‘cuddle’ bed for the palliative care unit at the Green Bay Health Centre. Members of the public wishing to make a donation to this may contact any member of the Green Bay club.
