Central Health Going Under External Review

February 6, 2018 ~ Today the Department of Health and Community Services announced that Central Health operations will be externally reviewed. The review will be completed by Dr. Peter Vaughan, a health administrator and the former Deputy Minister of the Department of Health and Wellness in Nova Scotia.

The review comes as a result of “concerns brought forward to the department about the governance and management of the health authority.”

What those concerns are exactly has not been made public. This external review will only cover Central Health and the concerns raised in this region.

The review’s focus will include governance, senior management and clinical management.

The work is to start in the coming weeks and will be conducted over the next two months.

According to Central Health’s website, the health authority covers the second biggest health region in the province. It serves a population of approximately 94,000 in 177 communities. It covers more than half the total landmass of the island of Newfoundland: from Baie Verte over to Fogo and the Terra Nova National Park area and down to the south coast.
