**UPDATE: Due to weather conditions, the boat parade and fire works have been postponed until Monday, August 21st**
King’s Point’s population will get a little bigger this coming weekend. The biggest event of King’s Point’s calendar will go down this Friday, August 18th.
The waterfront will be packed, and a section of the street will be closed, for the community’s ‘Night on the Point’.
Night on the Point will have over 20 street vendors, food vendors, 2 food trucks, 2 live bands, one very experienced clown, a full boat parade and a large fireworks show that organizers have spent considerable time preparing for.
Room to Stretch and Stroll
Bayside Drive traffic will have to be detoured for the safety of event-goers. Traffic will be detoured from Church Lane to Richard’s Lane. (See map of King’s Point on Google) There will be some parking available within the closed area but no vehicles will be permitted by the vendor tables which will be in an area running near the Whale Pavilion.
(See area of the King’s Point Waterfront that will accommodate Night on the Point on Google Street View.)
A Big Effort
The 2016 Night on the Point fireworks were impressive, especially considering King’s Point has a population of only about 600. A lot of effort was made again this year to raise the money for the many fireworks that will be shot up over King’s Point on the 18th.
The community came together and the funds were raised through donations from residents and businesses.
A representative for the organizers expressed appreciation for all the support this year:
“Thank you to all the businesses and individuals who donated money and prizes!”
King’s Point volunteers will also be selling blocks on smoked salmon at the event. There will be 50/50 draws and draws on other various items. All monies raised from the draws will go to the King’s Point Volunteer Fire Department.
It will be a busy day in King’s Point, and event organizers suggest it might even be a good time to get some early Christmas shopping in. The vendors set up on the street will have a heckuva lot on offer, so bring some cash in your wallet: seal skin products, jewelry, books, crafts, stained glass, bath bombs, cosmetics, treats and preserves and more.
