There are plenty of ‘nice drives’ in Green Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, but there are some real gems that just have to be seen. Without further ado, here are the top 3 spots you should visit in 2017, and revisit later. And again after that. (Seriously. Go.)
ONE ~ Backcove in Beachside
Tucked away at the end of a side road in Beachside are cliffs that will knock your socks off. Drink in the views at Backcove and head down to the beach via the sturdy stairs built in late 2016.
Be sure there is lots of storage on your camera phone. There is no way you won’t get snap happy.
Backcove is located at the end of Backcove Road. [Beachside Map on Google]
TWO ~ Pilley’s Island Heritage Centre
Pilley’s Island is rich in history and you can take a step back in time by visiting its Heritage Centre. This two-building museum includes a historical Methodist/United church built in 1896. The church will warm your heart, even if you are not one for churches.
There is also an epitaph, listing names of those from Pilley’s Island who perished at war. (Pilley’s Island was hit hard in WW1.)
The Centre is located on Harbour View Road. [Pilley’s Island Map on Google]
THREE ~ Rattling Brook Falls
800 feet high pretty much says everything you need to know. This falls is simply the best waterfalls around.
You can get pictures from the main road, but it is well worth the 5-15 minute walk up to the foot of the falls. The boardwalk and stairs are well maintained, and the view is amazing.
The falls is located at the beginning of the community of Rattling Brook. [Rattling Brook Map on Google]
